Bâtie de Mont-Briton The grounds display the hillcrest which dominates the Bréda creek canyon (picture top, with the rocky cliff).
The fort itself is only made of a wall protected in its two extremities by towers and overlooking the Bréda creek canyon.
Bâtie de Mont Briton Two rows of moats surround the fort, protected by palisades.
Bridges allowed to cross moats and enter every court through “tornefols”, sorts of sliding gates on a horizontal axis. Chicanes complicated the access for the attackers.
Below the fort was the camp of the masons, the carpenters and the other laborers of the construction site. The numerous guards who protected the construction camped here as well. The numerous wounded persons of the previous attacks were brought here for relief.
