Located 700 meters (2,100 feet)
above sea level, Bellecombe castle benefits from an
outstanding position to monitor the Gresivaudan Valley (access
to Grenoble Southward), the Combe de Savoie Valley (access to
Chambery Eastward) and Northern Isère valley (access to the
alpine pass of Mont Cenis towards Italy). This
is why Dauphinois and Savoyards fought
over 300 years to control this castle. |
